Vessel Safety Checks

Improve Boat Safety - Get a Free Vessel Safety Check

The Vessel Safety Check Program offers free safety checks to boaters who wish to be sure that their boats meet all federal and state requirements. This program is sponsored jointly by the United States Power Squadrons and United States Coast Guard Auxiliary. These two organizations have a combined membership of over 50,000 persons dedicated to boating safety and education.

The Vessel Examiners who perform these checks are trained specialists and Squadron members who know the latest legal requirements for boaters. Vessel Examiners have no legal authority—their goal is to prevent boaters from getting equipment-related citations and to reduce safety-related accidents. These boating safety equipment checks are meant to be educational and helpful, and are a good follow-up to any water safety course.

The Vessel Examiners will check to see if all required items are onboard your boat and if everything is present and in good working order, they will award a decal to affix to your boat. If you wish, they will also gladly explain the reason for the various safety equipment requirements and explain how boat safety equipment works to boost your boat safety awareness.

The Vessel Safety Check Program (VSCP) was formerly known as Courtesy Marine Examinations (CME). To find out more about Vessel Safety Examinations, to request one, or to complete a virtual examination, visit http://safetyseal.net.
